OUR
MISSION
Senior Nutrition Services is a
non-profit organization which recognizes the needs of the aging
population to maintain independence, while living at home. Our
goal is to provide high quality meals to as many of our aging friends as
our resources allow. We will provide these services in a
compassionate, caring way and in a cost-effective manner.
HISTORY
OF SENIOR NUTRITION SERVICES
The Older Americans Act is a law
enacted by Congress in 1965. The purpose of the act is to focus on
improving the lives of persons 60 and older by initiating programs,
distributing resources and providing a support system to develop
community-based services.
National nutrition programs were
authorized through this act in 1972 for the purpose of addressing the
nutritional and social needs of senior citizens.
Senior Nutrition Services Region IV, Inc.
was established in 1987 to provide senior citizens with balanced meals
five days a week in congregate dining center
programs or through home delivery in
communities throughout the Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties of
Michigan. Senior Nutrition Services, in conjunction with other
meal programs, works to assist community seniors in evaluating dietary
needs and addresses this concern through providing balanced meals.
Senior Nutrition Services depends on
support from program participants, private individuals, businesses and
many dedicated volunteers, to extend funding received through the Area
Agency on Aging IV.
